Houston police and Texas Equusearch, a civilian search and recovery team, searched for Farias but discovered no trace of him.
When Farias first went missing, Texas Equusearch said that he suffered from depression and anxiety, and that he may have been disoriented due to a lack of medicine.
Farias also suffered from asthma and walked with a small limp due to an injury to his right leg. “According to his mother, he is very wary around strangers,” Texas Equusearch said in 2015.

Because authorities were unable to locate Farias following the 2018 sighting, his case remained a missing person case. Rudy Farias was discovered resting in front of a nearby church on June 29 2023.
The Houston Police Department received a call for service on June 29, responded to the church in east Houston, and later determined that the individual was Farias, according to a department spokesperson.
It’s unclear where Farias has been throughout the years, and officials didn’t elaborate on his previous movements or what prompted the phone call that reunited him with his family.
