Woods finished 32nd in the general classification in 2019. His best stage result was a sixth-place finish on stage 2. He finished 15th overall in the mountainous category.

Woods was plagued by crashes and injuries at the Tour de France from the start, finishing with two broken ribs sustained in collisions on Stages 11 and 12.

In 2021, he finished third on Stage 8 and fifth on Stage 14. He left after Stage 18 and turned his focus to being at his best for the Olympics in Tokyo.

When did Michael Woods start cycling?

Woods began cycling professionally with Team Québecor Garneau in 2013.

Prior to becoming a cyclist, Woods was a promising middle-distance runner, setting Canadian national junior records in the mile and 3000 metres in 2005, as well as taking the gold medal in the 1500 metres at the 2005 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships.

Interestingly, the first sports Woods played was ice hockey and his childhood ambition was to play as a left wing for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
