Maeda began his professional career in Japan, playing for the Hiroshima Toyo Carp in the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) league. He had a successful tenure with the Carp, earning multiple accolades including the Sawamura Award, which is given to the top pitcher in the NPB.

In January 2016, Maeda signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers, transitioning to MLB. He quickly established himself as a valuable starting pitcher for the team, showcasing his repertoire of pitches and strong command. Maeda played for the Dodgers from 2016 to 2019, contributing to the team’s success during that time.

In February 2020, Maeda was traded to the Minnesota Twins. He won the Eiji Sawamura Award in 2010 with a 15-8 record and a 2.21 ERA, 174 strikeouts in 215+23 innings, and six complete games with two shutouts. He was also the youngest pitcher in Japanese baseball history to win the Triple Crown in the same year.
