Yuka Saso Parents: Meet Fritzie Saso, Masakazu Saso

Yuka Saso is a professional golfer from the Philippines. She was born in San Ildefonso, Bulacan, Philippines to Fritzie Saso and Masakazu Saso.

Her mother is a Filipina and her father is a Japanese hence her Japanese name. Her parents have always been supportive of her career.

In 2009, she began training in the sport of golf at the age of eight. As a teenager, she looked up to Northern Irish golfer Rory McIlroy and watched video clips of him, modelling her game after his.

When Saso, then 17, represented the Philippines and won two gold medals at the Asian Games in 2018, she became an overnight sensation.

Her wins are a testament to her bond with her Japanese father Masakazu, who helped set and enforce the gruelling schedule that propelled her to the top.

In June 2021, Yuka Saso made history by becoming the first Filipino golfer to win a major championship. She claimed victory at the U.S. Women’s Open, one of the most prestigious tournaments in women’s golf.

She represented the Philippines in international golf competitions until 2021, but he began competing for Japan officially in 2022.
