Vanessa Redgrave Ex-Husband: Meet Tony Richardson

Tony Richardson was the first husband of British actress Vanessa Redgrave.

Richardson was an English theatre and film director for over 50 years, and had won the Academy Award for Best Director for the film Tom Jones in 1964.

He had co-founded Woodfall Film Productions and made his directorial debut with the film Look Back in Anger (1959).

Other films he directed include The Entertainer (1960), A Taste of Honey (1961), and The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (1962), and many others.

Richardson and Redgrave were married from 1962 to 1967, and had two daughters, Joely and Natasha, who passed away in 2009.

Following their split, Richardson began to date French actress and singer Jeanne Moreau.

Richardson died of HIV complications in November 1991.

Vanessa Redgrave’s career spans over six decades, with a wide range of roles in theater, film, and television.

Redgrave made her professional stage debut in 1958 in the play “A Touch of the Sun”, and gained recognition for her performances in classical plays with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre in London.

Some of her notable stage roles include Rosalind in “As You Like It,” Cleopatra in “Antony and Cleopatra,” and Beatrice in “Much Ado About Nothing.”

Redgrave then made her film debut with “Behind the Mask”, and has since appeared in numerous films. Some of her notable film roles include Morgan!, Blow-Up, Julia, The Bostonians, Howard’s End, Mission: Impossible” films, Atonement, amongst many others.

On television, Redgrave has appeared in various TV series including The Day of the Triffids, Second Serve, If These Walls Could Talk 2, Nip/Tuck, and Call the Midwife, and many more.

Redgrave has received numerous awards and accolades throughout her career, including an Academy Award and several nominations, BAFTA Awards, Tony Awards, Emmy Awards, and Golden Globe Awards.

In addition to film, Redgrave is a strong political activist, who has shown commitment to social causes over the years. She has been involved in various humanitarian efforts and has lent her voice on issues revolving around peace, human rights, and social justice.
