Luis Francisco Romo Barrón was born on June 5, 1995, in Ahome, Mexico. At the age of 15, Luis Romo was cut by Cruz Azul and eventually joined the youth squads of Querétaro.

Luis Romo made his Liga MX debut with Querétaro on 20 July 2018, in the team’s opening match of the season, against Atlas.

Luis Romo played in the return leg of the Guardianes 2020 semi-finals which Cruz Azul lost 4–0, resulting in the team’s elimination 4–4 on aggregate.
Luis Romo had an integral part in Cruz Azul’s championship-winning Guardianes 2021 campaign, playing in 19 matches, scoring three goals, and providing seven assists. He was named the league’s best player.
Luis Romo was called up by Jaime Lozano as one of three over-age reinforcements for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. He won the bronze medal with the Olympic team.
