Dr. Luke, whose real name is Lukasz Gottwald, is an American record producer, songwriter, and musician. He is the son of Janusz Jerzy Gottwald. The name of his mother is not public knowledge.

Sebastian Gottwald grew up in Providence, Rhode Island. He is a Jew. Janusz Jerzy Gottwald, his father, was an architect from Ask, Poland.
Dr. Luke spent a significant portion of his formative years in New York City. He wanted to be a drummer at first, but his parents wouldn’t let him have a drum kit in the house.
At the age of 13, he took up his older sister’s guitar and taught himself to play. He recalls as a teenager “listening to bad music over and over, if there was a guitar part he admired, so he could figure out what the guitar player was doing right.”

Dr. Luke gained recognition for his production and songwriting work on a variety of hit songs in the 2000s and 2010s. He has contributed to the creation of several chart-topping singles and albums.
He was nominated for a Grammy Award for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical at the 53rd Grammy Awards, and Perry’s Teenage Dream was nominated for Album of the Year.
