Sophia Raworth was born to a florist mother, Jenny Raworth and a businessman father, Richard Raworth. There isn’t much information about her father on the internet yet.

Investigating her family line, Raworth found a long line of horticultural heritage stretching back to the 1700s, and beginning with her great-grandfather, Edgar Cussons Crowder, who once worked in the Palm House at Kew Gardens.

Further research reveals that her five-time great-grandfather, Abraham Crowder, grew and sold pineapple plants in the 18th Century, at a time when the fruit was a prestigious luxury.
After completing a degree in French and German at the University of Manchester, Raworth spent a year teaching English to teenagers in Toulouse before studying for a postgraduate course in broadcasting and journalism at the City, University of London.
