The small submarine began its journey underwater with five passengers on Sunday morning, according to the US Coast Guard, and the Canadian research vessel with which it was working lost contact with the crew about an hour and 45 minutes into the dive.
Rear Admiral John Mauger, who is in charge of the search for the missing submarine, said the vessel could be trapped in the Titanic, which is about 370 miles off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada.
While the Coast Guard does not have a submarine capable of reaching those depths, officials are working around the clock to ensure that such a vessel is available if and when the Titan sub is discovered.

OceanGate in a statement on Monday, June 19 said “Every step possible is being taken to bring the five crew members back safely. We are deeply grateful for the urgent and extensive assistance we are receiving from multiple government agencies and deep-sea companies as we seek to reestablish contact with the submersible.”
Officials said there was only 40 hours of oxygen left on the Titan as of Tuesday, June 20 2023, afternoon.
