British actor, Paxton Whitehead has been reported dead. According to sources, he died on June 16, 2023, at the age of 85. No cause of death was announced.

He made his Broadway debut in 1962 in The Affair after appearing in the Canadian stage and TV productions. He replaced Jonathan Miller in the Broadway production of Beyond the Fringe in 1964 and appeared on the LP recording of Beyond the Fringe ’64. He went on to appear with the American Shakespeare Company to direct in regional repertory.

Whitehead became an Artistic Director of the Shaw Festival after Barry Morse’s administration. He was able to push through a plan of building the purpose-built 869-seat state-of-the-art Festival Theatre to expand considerably the capacity for the audience at Niagara-on-the-lake.
He appeared in numerous Broadway productions including The Apple Cart, Major Barbara, The Philanderer, Arms and the Man, Misalliance, Heartbreak House, and more.
Whitehead also appeared in several movies and tv shows such as Frasier, Caroline in the City, Ellen, 3rd Rock from the Sun, The Drew Carry Show, Mad About You, Friend, Magnum P. I., Murder, She Wrote, Law & Order, The West Wing, and more.
