Big Pokey Obituary

Big Pokey died at the hospital after collapsing on stage while performing. His death occurred on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at age 45.

Tributes have been pouring in on social media after his death was announced.

“I wasn’t ready for this. One of the most naturally talented artists in the city. Lowkey, humble mountain of a man who moved with honor and respect. He was easy to love and hard to hate,” Big Pokey’s close friend, Port Arthur Native Bun B.

“Y’all, we gotta have a code. RIP Big Pokey. Y’all need to stop putting people’s last moments on the internet. Nobody needs to see it that wasn’t there to see. It’s made disrespectful,” a fam angrily shared after his collapsing video surfaced online.

“Pull out your cassette players, pop in the gray tapes, and jam one time for Big Pokey,” another fan wrote.

“Can’t believe I’m saying this but RIP Big Pokey a real Texas legend!!” another one wrote.
