Nicola Coughlan is an Irish actress. She is the daughter of Martin and Beatrice Coughlan. At the age of five, she decided to become an actress after seeing her older sister perform in a school play.

She attended primary school at Scoil Mhuire and secondary school at Calasanctius College. She graduated from the National University of Ireland, Galway, with a degree in English and Classical Civilisation.
Nicola Coughlan then went on to study at the Oxford School of Drama and the Birmingham School of Acting in England. She gained significant recognition for her role as Clare Devlin in the hit Channel 4 sitcom “Derry Girls.”

She tragically lost her father only five days before landing the role of Clare in the sitcom. Speaking to Laura Whitmore on her Castaway podcast, Nicola said: “I lost my dad five days before I got Derry Girls.
“He sadly didn’t know I ever got it. It’s sad he never got to see it. I’m so privileged, I’m so lucky and I have a really special life.
Aside from “Derry Girls,” Coughlan has appeared in various film and television projects. She has notably starred as Penelope Featherington in the Netflix period drama series “Bridgerton.”
