Clark became a writer because she wanted to help her mother – Mary Higgins Clark – with her scripts, while also familiarizing herself with the process of writing a book and telling tales.
She also wrote suspense books just like her mother, however, her books contained a sense of humor, unlike her mother. She once shared that she used her first job experience to develop an idea for her book Ice, where she uses a woman who is working as a dry cleaner as the main character.
