He later returned to playing while writing music with his brother, a guitarist. Minchin has stated openly that he dislikes the term “classically trained” because he considers himself to have “dubious piano skills.”
Tim Minchin attended the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), a renowned college for music, dance, and acting in Perth, Western Australia, after earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and theatre at the University of Western Australia.

After graduating, he began composing music for theatre, primarily in Perth’s thriving fringe arts scene. In addition to his live performances, Tim Minchin has released several albums, including “Darkside,” “Ready for This?,” and “Apart Together.”
He has also written and composed music for theatre productions, including the critically acclaimed musical “Matilda the Musical,” based on the Roald Dahl book. Minchin has received numerous awards for his work, including several Helpmann Awards and an Olivier Award.
