Quannah Chasinghorse grew up in Arizona, Mongolia, and New Mexico before returning to her maternal homelands in Alaska when she was six years old.
She was raised with her two brothers, hunting, fishing, dog mushing, and living a subsistence lifestyle by their single mother. She advocated against oil leasing, which would harm the refuge, and she supported HR 11-46, a bill that would permanently protect the land.

Chasinghorse said that she has had limited contact with her father and was raised by her mother and stepfather. “I stand with the victims of Nathan Lee Chasing His Horse,” she said, as reported by the Associated Press.
“I honour the immense courage it takes for survivors to tell their stories, especially publicly.”
