Blackie Onassis Cause of Death

Blackie Onassis who was the drummer in the Urge Overkill band has been reported dead by the band. His cause of death, time of death, and age at the time of death were not stated in the report. However, his death was announced on Wednesday, June 14, 2023.

Born John Rowan, he joined the Urge Overkill music group in the early ’90s and played with the group as they opened for Nirvana’s Nevermind tour in 1991. After their phenomenal performance, the band was signed by Geffen Records. Urge Overkill was made up of singer and guitarist, Nash Kato and Eddie King Roeser, while Onassis drummed and sang as well.

He played an integral part in the group’s ’90s albums; The Supersonic (1991), Saturation (1993), and Exit the Dragon (1995). Two of these albums debuted on the Billboard 200, while Sister Havana off the Saturation album reached the Top 10 of the Modern Rock and Mainstream Rock tallies.

Their song Girl, You’ll Be a Woman Soon was featured in the 1994 film Pulp Fiction by veteran director, Quentin Tarantino. Unfortunately, Roeser left the group in the ’90s, after the release of Exit Dragon in 1995. Onassis was also arrested for heroin possession around that same period, however, the charges were soon dropped.

In 2000, Kato also released a solo disc that featured almost half of its songs co-opened with Onassis, while the band took a break. Roeser also returned to the band in 2005 and went on tour with the band, however, Onassis was omitted.
