After the album’s release, Marshall largely withdrew from the public eye and took a break from recording and performing.

Marshall’s absence from the music scene was due to legal wranglings with her record label following the termination of her management in 2002. Those battles went on for about 12 years.

As a result, Marshall stepped away from the music industry and did not release any new albums or actively pursue her career as a recording artist. While she made occasional live appearances at events and concerts, her musical output significantly decreased.

Amanda Marshall announced her new album, Heavy Lifting, and a Canada-wide tour on March 27, 2023.  She released the first single from Heavy Lifting, “I Hope She Cheats”, a cover of Marsha Ambrosius’s “Hope She Cheats on You (With a Basketball Player)”, on March 31, 2023.
