Marshall studied music extensively as a child, including at Toronto’s Royal Conservatory of Music. In her teens, she met guitarist Jeff Healey while performing on the Queen Street West pub scene. He was impressed by her powerful voice and took her on tour for a long time.

Marshall gained popularity in the 1990s with her powerful and soulful vocals. Her self-titled debut album, “Amanda Marshall,” was released in 1995 and achieved significant success in Canada.
