How many Tony Awards does J. Harrison Ghee have?

American actor, J. Harrison Ghee has won just one Tony Award in their career so far. They won the Best Actor in a Musical in the 2023 edition of the annual ceremony. They became one of the first openly-binary actors to be nominated for and win Tony Awards.

Some of their other awards also include a Drama Desk Award and an Outer Critics Circle Award which were all won in 2023.

Ghee began their career in the entertainment industry by working professionally at Tokyo Disneyland and on cruise ships. They began their drag persona, Crystal Demure while working in Tokyo. When they auditioned for Motown, they took the opportunity to share with the casting directors, who also worked on Kinky Boots, their story and connection with the Kinky Boots character Lola and were eventually cast as Lola in their Broadway debut.

They were the first established drag performer to take on the role and eventually joined the national touring production of the show. Ghee joined the cast of Mrs. Doubtfire and began previews before the 2020 closing of Broadway.

Ghee performed as Velma Kelly in The Muny’s production of Chicago in 2021, before originating the role of Andre when Mrs. Doubtfire opened. In 2022, they joined the cast of Some Like It Hot, playing Jerry/Daphne, the role played by Jack Lemmon in the film.
