Who won Jaime Munguia vs Sergiy Derevyanchenko? – On Saturday night (June 10, 2023), Mexican star Jaime Munguia won a razor-thin unanimous decision over Ukraine’s Sergiy Derevyanchenko in a 12-round middleweight non-title battle at the Toyota Arena in Ontario, Calif. The final results were 115-112, 114-113, and 114-113.

Munguia (42-0, 33 KOs) appeared doomed as he absorbed scores of Sergiy’s meaty headshots.

However, Munguai showed amazing battling guts, willpower, and resolve to win, keeping his unbeaten record intact thanks to a body-shot knockdown in the final seconds of the battle.

Munguai stated in his post-match interview with DAZN:

“We knew it was a very close fight, but the knockdown helped.

“It was a very tough lesson. I have a lot to learn. There are a few details that I need to get better.”

According to reports, Golden Boy Promotions requested that this bout be lowered from 12 to 10 rounds, which offered Derevyanchenko a considerable sum of money to do so, but he turned it down. Derevyanchenko’s refusal turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Munguia because if the match ended in round 10, Derevyanchenko will most likely have been declared winner.

One feels bad for Derevyanchenko, who has yet to win a bout. He had the similar experience against Daniel Jacobs and Gennady Golovkin.

Surprisingly, the Ukrainian is far better than his 14-5 (10 KOs) record suggests.
