American domestic terrorist, Ted Kaczynski was named UNABOM by the FBI due to the Bureau’s code for university and airline bombing. That designation was inspired by his first targets, from 1978 to 1980: academics at Northwestern University, the president of United Airlines, and the passengers of a flight from Chicago to Washington.

Ted Kaczynski’s crimes came to light after it was uncovered that he forced Washington Post and the New York Times to push his violent manifesto dubbed Industrial Society and Its Future in September 1995.

They only agreed to publish the manifesto on the condition that Kaczynski would end his campaign if a national paper published it. They were advised by the FBI and US Attorney General to do so. It was a 35,000-word anonymized document railed against modern life and claimed that technology was leading to Americans suffering from a sense of alienation and powerlessness.

Kaczynski died on June 10, 2023. His body was discovered this morning (June 10, 2023) at around 00:25 local time, according to a spokesperson for the US Bureau of Prisons.

Responding staff immediately initiated life-saving measures. Mr. Kaczynski was transported by EMS to a local hospital and subsequently pronounced deceased by hospital personnel,” the authorities shared.
