Born on March 25, 1952, Kessler was the chairman of the board of directors and chief executive officer of SCOR SE since 2002.
Since taking over as chairman and CEO of the Paris-based Scor in November 2002, he has been credited with pulling the company back from the verge of ruin.
Kessler, an economist by training, brought stability to the company before developing it into a tier one (re)insurer through a combination of acquisitions (including the former Zurich Re unit Converium) and organic expansion.

Prior to his tenure at SCOR, he was the Vice-Chairman of MEDEF and the CEO of AXA.
He served on the boards of BNP Paribas, Bolloré, Dassault Aviation, Invesco, and Fonds Strategic d’Investment.
He was a member of the Yam Invest N.V. Supervisory Board and the President of Le Siècle from 2007 to 2010.
Kessler graduated from HEC Paris and received a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Paris.
Kessler died on June 9, 2023, at the age of 71.
