Dareh Gregorian was born on March 24, 1970, in Austin, Texas, as the youngest of three male children. His brothers were Vahe and Raffi Gregorian.
Vartan Gregorian and Clare Russell are his parents.
Dareh’s father is Armenian-Iranian and was president of New York’s prestigious Carnegie Corporation.

Clare Rusell, his mother, was the Literary Partners chairperson until her death in 2018.
Dareh pursued his passion for becoming a journalist by attending Boston University.
He graduated in 1992 with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication.
Dareh began working as a reporter and researcher for The New York Observer after graduating from college.
Following a year at the firm, he opted to leave and later worked as a part-time reporter and editor for the New York Post.
Maggie Haberman met him while he was working at the New York Post.
