Why is Cuba Gooding Jr not acting anymore?

American actor Cuba Gooding Jr was one of the biggest names in Hollywood between the late 1990s and early 2000s.

However, despite his several early successes, the once-famous actor has stepped away from the spotlight due to a series of personal and professional setbacks. Nowadays, Gooding makes headlines not for any of his recent films, but for the string of controversies that have surrounded him.

Cuba Gooding Jr. was charged with sexual abuse in 2019 following an incident in New York City’s Times Square. Gooding is accused of groping a woman in a pub. This set off a chain reaction in which Gooding was arrested on multiple sexual abuse charges.

Gooding was eventually accused of inappropriate sexual touching and groping by 22 women. Three of those allegations resulted in formal charges being filed against him. With each charge, he initially pleaded not guilty.

A woman filed a lawsuit against Gooding on August 19, 2020, accusing him of raping her in New York City in 2013. On June 6, 2023, the two parties reached a settlement agreement. Gooding will not face trial as a result of the settlement.

Despite the settlement, Gooding’s lawyers maintained that he and the woman had consensual sex and that the woman later boasted to others about having sex with a celebrity. 30 women had accused Gooding of unwanted sexual touching as of August 2020.
