Astrud Gilberto’s cause of death is still not known. However, a close source revealed that she died on Monday, June 5, 2023, but no further details were added. She was 83.

She was best known for the global hit single The Girl From Ipanema. The song was released in 1964 and was taken from Getz/Gilberto album. Even though the song raked in over one million sales, some sources claim that Astrud was paid only a standard session fee of $120.

This is because Astrud did not write the song and had not previously been rated as a key figure in the bossa nova movement, because she was not a professional at that time.
