Hanssen handed over classified documents, operational procedures, technical information, and other intelligence materials that were of great value to Russia.

Some of the types of information Hanssen disclosed include Counterintelligence operations. Hanssen exposed FBI efforts to track Russian spies and operations on US soil, jeopardizing ongoing investigations and compromising the safety of American agents.

Hanssen  also revealed the identities of several valuable double agents working for the United States within the Russian intelligence community, resulting in their capture, imprisonment, and, in some cases, execution.
