German actress, Margit Carstensen was best known for playing the titular role in Fassbinder’s 1972 film The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant. She also starred in many movies and tv shows including Martha (1974), Fear of Fear (1975), Mother Kusters’ Trip to Heaven (1975), Satan’s Brew (1976), Chinese Roulette (1976), Women in New York (1977), Eight Hours Don’t Make a Day (1972), Berlin Alexanderplatz (1980), and more.\

She appeared in other international productions including Possession (1981), by Polish filmmaker, Andrzej Zulawski. Four years later, she was called back by the same director to star in Angry Harvest (1985). The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Carstensen collaborated with director Christoph Schlingensief on two projects; 100 Years of Adolf Hitler: The Last Hour in Fuhrerbunker (1989) and Terror 2000: Germany Out of Control (1992).
Her last movie before her death was in Tatort in 2016. She won several awards in her career. Some of them include Bavarian Film Award for Best Actress in 2002, and more.
