What happened to Margit Carstensen?

Margit Carstensen has died after a prolonged illness. She was 83 years old at the time of death. Sources report that she died on Thursday, June 1, 2023.

She was a German actress who was best known for playing the titular role in Fassbinder’s 1972 film The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant. 

Carstensen started her career in film and television in the 1970s. Outside her home country Germany, she was known for playing in several movies and tv shows by film director Rainer Werner Fassbinder.

Some of these movies and tv shows include Martha (1974), Fear of Fear (1975), Mother Kusters’ Trip to Heaven (1975), Satan’s Brew (1976), Chinese Roulette (1976), Women in New York (1977), Eight Hours Don’t Make a Day (1972), Berlin Alexanderplatz (1980), and more.
