George Watson was a longtime ABC News Washington Bureau. He covered some of the heaviest fighting in Vietnam and Cambodia in 1968 and 1970. He served as a former Washington Bureau chief, and White House correspondent for 12 years. He also served as a correspondent and bureau chief in Moscow and London.

He came back to Washington in 1985 for his second tour as bureau chief. He announced his retirement in 1993, but supplied commentary and analysis for radio and the late night show World News Now from 1993 to 2001.

Watson also served as the Vice President of ABC News. He developed and produced Viewpoint, a program designed to provide a forum for viewer criticism of ABC News in particular and broadcast journalism in general. During his time, Viewpoint won an Emmy, a Peabody, and the DuPont-Columbia Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism.
He graduated from Harvard University, where he was managing editor of The Harvard Crimson, and also a reporter for The Detroit News and The Washington Post.
