Who played General Lasseter in ‘The Sum of All Fears’?

American actor, John Beasley played the role of General Lasseter in the 2002 film The Sum of All Fears. The movie also starred Ben Affleck, Morgan Freeman, James Cromwell, Liev Schreiber, Bridget Moynahan, Philip Baker, and more.

“In 193, during the Yom Kippur War, an Israeli warplane carrying a nuclear bomb is shot down. In 2002, a Syrian scarp collector uncovers a large unexploded bomb buried in a field in the Golan Heights. He sells it to a South African black-market arms trafficker named Olson, who recognized it as the nuclear bomb that was lost during the war. He then sells it to a neo-nazi group led by Austrian billionaire Richard Dressler, whose aim is to start a war between the United States and Russia that will devastate them both and leave a united fascist Europe to rule the world,” the plot of the movie states.

Beasley also appeared in the TV Land sitcom The Soul Man which aired its fifth and final season in 2016. Some of his other film credits include It Snows All The Time, Haunted Maze, The Turkey Bowl, Stoker Hills, Firestarter, Spell, Shots Fired, The Resident, Limetown, The Mandalorian, Your Honor, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, and more.

He was reported dead by his son, actor Michael Beasley. He died on May 30, 2023, at age 79. According to sources, the famous actor died in a hospital in his hometown, Omaha, following complications after undergoing liver tests.
