Known for her extensive work in numerous Royal Shakespeare Company productions Walter has received an Oliver Award as well as nominations for a Tony Award, three Emmy Awards and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

Walter began her career acting with the Royal Shakespeare Company in the production of Twelfth Night, Three Sisters, for which she received the Olivier Award for Best Actress. She received further Olivier nominations for Life x 3 and Mary Stuart. Her other notable work for the RSC includes leading roles in Macbeth and Antony and Cleopatra.
In August 2019, Deadline reported that Walter would be joining the cast of the BBC America and AMC series Killing Eve. Walter played Dasha, a Russian exile and former Olympics gymnastics champion who trained Villanelle in the assassination.
