After cars ahead of them piled up at Turn 1, Stefan Wilson’s Dreyer and Reinbold Racing car was hit from behind by Katherine Legge’s Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing machine.
Both cars spun and collided with the wall at different angles at high speeds. While Legge collided with the wall sideways, allowing her to escape unharmed, Wilson collided with the SAFER barrier head-on.

Stefan Wilson was taken to the medical centre and then to a nearby hospital for advanced imaging, where the injury was diagnosed. Stefan Wilson underwent successful surgery on May 25, 2023.
