George Maharis has been reported dead. He died on May 24, 2023, at age 94. He died after a long battle with hepatitis. He was an American actor and singer who was best known for his role as Buz Murdock on Route 66.

Unfortunately, he left the show in season 3 due to health-related issues.
“I have to protect my future. I keep going at the present pace, I’m a fool. Even if you have $4 million in the bank, you can’t buy another life,” he said in an interview in 1963.

Maharis studied at the Actors Studio and appeared in off-Broadway productions of Jean Genet’s Deathwatch. He also appeared on Studio One, Kraft Television Theatre, Goodyear Television Playhouse, Naked City, Search for Tomorrow, and more, during the early stage of his career.
He also starred in several movies and tv shows including Quick Before It Melts, The Satan Bug, Sylvia, A Covenant with Death, The Happening, The Most Deadly Game, Mission: Impossible, Fantasy Island, Kojak, McMillan & Wife, Barnaby Jones, Police Story, Switch, and more.
