Born on January 14, 1982, in Evanston, Illinois, United States, Gilford graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in theater, and launched his acting career with appearances in various TV shows.

In 2005, Gilford appeared in one of the episodes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
