In a statement, they said: “Tina Turner, the ‘Queen of Rock’n Roll’ has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland. The exact illness she suffered from was not revealed.

Tina Turner revealed in her 2018 memoir My Love Story that she had been diagnosed with a number of life-threatening illnesses. Three weeks after her wedding to Erwin Bach in 2013, she suffered a stroke and had to relearn how to walk. She was diagnosed with intestinal cancer in 2016.

Tina Turner chose homoeopathy to treat her high blood pressure. Her hypertension caused kidney damage and eventually kidney failure. Her chances of getting a kidney were slim, so she was advised to begin dialysis. She contemplated assisted suicide and joined Exit, but Bach offered to donate a kidney for her transplant. On April 7, 2017, Turner underwent kidney transplant surgery.

Tina Turner began her career in the 1950s during the early years of rock and roll and evolved into an MTV phenomenon. Turner won six of her eight Grammy Awards in the 1980s.

Years after her retirement, her name continues to captivate audiences. The musical stage show “TINA: The Tina Turner Musical,” with Adrienne Warren initially acting and singing the star’s life story, was a hit in London’s West End in 2018, and is still running on Broadway. In 2021, HBO released a documentary about her life called “Tina.”
