The University of Ghana has been named the finest university in Ghana and the second-best in West Africa in the Center for World University Rankings’ 2023 Global 2000 ranking (CWUR).

The University of Ghana was also ranked among the top 6.1% of world-class universities by CWUR.
The top 20,531 institutions were ranked, and those who finished first comprised the Global 2000 ranking.
The University of Ghana’s outstanding performance placed it second in the West African Region, only behind Nigeria’s University of Ibadan, which received a score of 69.5.

The rankings were determined by seven objective measures spread over four categories: educational quality, alumni employment, faculty quality, and research performance.
In response to the ranking, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Vice-Chancellor of the University, expressed joy and ascribed the accomplishment to the professors, staff, and students’ tenacity, dedication, and hard work.
She stated that the accomplishment demonstrated the University’s united dedication to greatness and the never-ending pursuit of knowledge.
She emphasized that the achievement was a source of enormous pride for the country, as it has long been regarded as a beacon of higher education.
