Who was Ray Stevenson? ‘Thor’ and ‘Star Wars’ Actor Dead at 58

Ray Stevenson was a North Irish actor who played the Volstagg in three Thor movies; Thor, Thor: The Dark World, and Thor: Ragnarok. He also voiced the character of Gar Saxon in Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. At Star Wars Celebration 2023, he was announced as playing the Dark Jedi Baylan Skoll in the upcoming series Ahsoka.

He began his career in 1998 when he starred in the film The Theory of Flight. He played the role of a gigolo hired to help Helena Bonham Carter’s character lose her virginity.

Stevenson also starred in the 2002 short film No Man’s Land. In 2004, he starred in King Arthur as Dagonet, a knight of the round table who sacrifices his life for his comrades.

From 2011 to 2015, he appeared in several movies and tv shows including Kill the Irishman, Thor, The Three Musketeers, G. I. Joe: Retaliation, Jayne Mansfield’s Car, Thor: The Dark World, Divergent, Big Game, The Divergent Series: Insurgent, The Transporter: Refueled, and more.

Stevenson was reported dead by his reps at Independent Talent. They shared that he died in Italy on Sunday, May 21, 2023, while filming Cassino In Ischia. No cause of death was revealed.
