Lin started his professional career in 2010 when he signed with the Golden State Warriors. He played in the rookie season and was assigned to the NBA Development League (D-League).

He was waived by both the Warriors and the Houston Rockets before joining the New York Knicks early in the 2011-12 season. He first played sparingly for the Knicks, and he again spent time in the D-League. He was promoted to the starting lineup in February 2012 and led the team on a seven-game winning streak.
