Born on August 23, 1988, Lin started his professional career in 2010 when he signed with the Golden State Warriors. He played in the rookie season and was assigned to the NBA Development League (D-League).

He was waived by both the Warriors and the Houston Rockets before joining the New York Knicks early in the 2011-12 season. He first played sparingly for the Knicks, and he again spent time in the D-League. He was promoted to the starting lineup in February 2012 and led the team on a seven-game winning streak.

Lin appeared on the covers of Sports Illustrated and Time, was named to the Time 100 as one of the most influential people in the world, and won the ESPY Award for Breakthrough Athlete of the Year in 2012.

He went on to play for other teams including the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, Charlotte Hornets, Brooklyn Nets, Atlanta Hawks, and Toronto Raptors.

However, he battled several injuries that slowed his performance for a few seasons and left the NBA in August 2019 to sign with the Beijing Ducks, where he became an All-Star in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA).

In 2021, Lin played the Warriors Development Team. He also returned to the CBA to play with the Ducks, and later joined the Guangzhou Loong Lions. He left the Loong Lions midseason in 2022-23 and joined the Kaohsuinng 17LIVE Steelers in 2023.
