Dunstone has three A-levels, grades B, C, and D. After spending a gap year with Torch Computers in Cambridge and later with NEC, he dropped out of his business degree at Liverpool University.

Dunstone was named The Daily Telegraph’s Business Person of the Year in 2005.
In the 2012 Queen’s Birthday Honours List, he was appointed a Knight Bachelor “for contributions to the mobile communications sector and to charity.”
He was named Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO) in the 2015 Queen’s Birthday Honours List for his work with The Prince’s Trust.
Dunstone founded a charitable trust, which is the primary sponsor of Preston’s Fulwood Academy.
Dunstone was appointed to the Royal Museums Greenwich Board of Trustees by the Prime Minister in November 2013.
