Bob Uecker Parents: Meet August Uecker, Mary Schultz

Bob Uecker is an American former professional baseball player, sportscaster, and actor. He is the son of August Uecker and Mary Schultz.

His father August “Gus” Uecker immigrated from Switzerland in 1923, and his mother Marie Schultz Uecker was born in Michigan. Carol Ann and Rosemary are his two younger sisters.

He grew up at Borchert Field, home of the minor-league Milwaukee Brewers. In 1956, he signed a professional contract with his hometown Milwaukee Braves.

Bob Uecker is best known for his long and successful career as a play-by-play announcer for the Milwaukee Brewers baseball team.

As a player, Uecker was a catcher who played in the Major Leagues from 1962 to 1967.  Following his playing career, Uecker transitioned to broadcasting and began working as a color commentator for the Brewers’ radio and television broadcasts.

He quickly gained popularity for his quick wit, comedic timing, and memorable catchphrases. Uecker’s infectious laughter and entertaining commentary made him a fan favorite, and he became known as “Mr. Baseball” in Milwaukee.

Bob Uecker’s contributions to the world of baseball and sports broadcasting have earned him numerous accolades, including induction into the National Radio Hall of Fame and the National Baseball Hall of Fame as the recipient of the Ford C. Frick Award for broadcasting excellence.
