German actress, Renate Krößner died at age 75 on May 25, 2020, after suffering from a short illness. She appeared in the news again in 2023, after being celebrated by Google today – May 17, 2023 – on what would’ve been her 78th birthday. She is considered one of the most popular actresses from Germany.

She began her career in the mid-60s when she appeared in her first film dubbed Tiefe Furchen in 1965. Her breakthrough internationally was in the movie Bis daß de Tod euch scheidet which was released in 1979. She played the role of a woman’s best friend in a film about violence in a young marriage.

Krößner is best known for her role as Sunny in Solo Sunny, released in 1980. She won several awards for this film. Some of these awards include the Silver Bear for Best Actress.
In the film, she played the role of a factory worker who dreams of artistic freedom as a singer, touring with a mediocre band, in conflict with social conventions of the period.
It was the first Berlinale Award for an East German production. her character’s attitude and fashion sense in the film was a large contributor and influencer to the German youth at the time.
