Who was Renate Krößner? Google Doodle Celebrates German Actress

Renate Krößner was a German actress who was best known for her role as Sunny in the popular ’80s movie Solo Sunny. She is being celebrated by Google today – May 17, 2023 – on what would’ve been her 78th birthday.

Born on May 17, 1945, Renate Krößner started her career in the mid-60s when she appeared in her first film dubbed Tiefe Furchen in 1965. Her breakthrough internationally was in the movie Bis daß de Tod euch scheidet which was released in 1979. She played the role of a woman’s best friend in a film about violence in a young marriage.

What made her one of the most popular, if not the most popular actress in Germany, was her role as Sunny in Solo Sunny, released in 1980. She won several awards for this film. Some of these awards include the Silver Bear for Best Actress.

Krößner also appeared in several movies and tv shows including North Curve, Alles auf Zucker! Stubbe – Von Fall zu Fall, Emmal Bulle, immer Bulle, and more. She won a Deutscher Filmpresis award for Best Actress for her role in North Curve.

She was a member of the jury at the 41st Berlin International Film Festival.  Krößner died at age 75 on May 25, 2020, after suffering from a short illness.
