Who Kidnapped Kayla Unbehaun? Has Kayla Unbehaun Been Found?

Kayla Unbehaun, a young girl from Illinois was abducted by her mother. Kayla Unbehaun was nine years old when she went missing while in the care of her mother, Heather Unbehaun.

Kayla had gone to see her mother, who had visitation rights but not full custody of her daughter, on July 4, 2017.

Kayla’s father, who had full custody, went to pick her up from her mother’s house in Wheaton, Illinois, the next day, only to discover that both his daughter and her mother were missing.

A search was launched to find the kidnapped child, but the trail went cold for years.

Almost six years after she went missing, a chance sighting more than 600 miles away in North Carolina led to authorities finally finding the missing child on Saturday, May 13 2023.

According to WSOC, an unidentified store owner in Asheville spotted Kayla, now 15, in a local shopping centre and recognised her from the Netflix show.

The Good Samaritan called the cops, who found Kayla and took her into custody. According to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, Ms Unbehaun was arrested and charged with one count of child abduction.

Heather Unbehaun was arrested on Saturday and is being held on a $250,000 bond pending extradition, according to Buncombe County, North Carolina, Deputy Clerk Cory Alexander, who spoke to CNN on Tuesday, May 16 2023.

Specific charges were not listed, but she was given a court date of July 11, 2023, according to Alexander.
