American investor and programmer, Sam Altman has an estimated net worth of around $500 million. Considering that he has been in the software engineering industry for over a decade, it is understandable that he has been able to rake in such a great amount of wealth over the years.

He began his career in programming when he was just 19 years old. He co-founded Loopt – a location-based social networking mobile app. He was able to raise over $30 million in venture capital for the company but unfortunately, it still failed to gain traction with enough users.

It was acquired by the Green Dot Corporation for $43.4 million in 2012. In 2011, Altman became a partner at Y Combinator after initially working part-time. He was named the President of the company in 2014.
Altman is the founder and current CEO of OpenAI – an app that was launched in 2015 and raised $1 billion. He also once served as CEO of Reddit in 2014, which lasted for only eight days until he was replaced by Steve Huffman.
