Seun Kuti, the son of the late Nigerian musician Fella Kuti, has been arrested by Nigerian police.

Seun’s arrest was disclosed in a video shared by Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, via his verified Twitter handle on Monday, May 15.

Seun Kuti, who was shown in a video beating a police officer on Lagos’ famed third mainland bridge last weekend, was spotted in handcuffs, indicating that he was being held by Nigeria police.

Many social media users expressed their belief that his arrest was the greatest option because the law should not be a respecter of persons.

@tompounds on Twitter wrote”I actually like Seun, but slapping a police officer in public, is a no. Thank God he is with the police now. He can clear his name if he feels he did nothing wrong.”

@tunde_Osho on Twitter wrote” Nice one! Let him clear his name, if the police actually threatened to kill him, as he claimed.”

@obi Aloze on Facebook wrote “New Nigeria is possible with new behavior. #prosecuteSeunNow for a better Nigeria.”

Seun Kuti did, in fact, surrender to the Nigerian police by visiting the commissioner of police for Lagos state, Idowu Owohunwa, in his office.
