Steeltown Murders is a four-part BBC One factual drama television miniseries based on the true story of Port Talbot serial killer Joseph Kappen, who killed three teenagers.

It was directed by Marc Evans and written by Ed Whitmore. It stars Philip Glenister and Steffan Rhodri as detectives investigating Joseph Kappen’s real-life murders in Port Talbot, South Wales.

The victims Geraldine Hughes and Pauline Floyd both left Swansea’s Top Rank nightclub without ever returning home.

Their bodies were later discovered in Llandarcy. The “Saturday Night Strangler” case became the first documented case of a serial killer in Wales.

The production included real-life detective Paul Bethell, and Philip Glenister stated that he felt a “responsibility” to get the story right for the bereaved family members.
