Deborra Jane Hope, CM was a Canadian journalist, anchor, and producer. Deborra Hope passed away on May 15 2023.

It was revealed that she had Alzheimer’s disease on October 8, 2020, with mild symptoms appearing at the time she retired.

Following the diagnosis, Hope lived at home with the help of her husband Roger and daughters. Eventually, she moved into a nursing home. She died at the age of 67, in a long-term care facility in Vancouver

Hope grew up in Trail and attended the University of B.C. in Vancouver and Carleton University in Ottawa. She started her journalism career with The Canadian Press in Ottawa before eventually joining BCTV in Vancouver.

She was the face of BCTV’s Variety Club for 20 years and worked with many charities, including the Courage to Come Back campaign and the Down Syndrome Resource Foundation.

In June 2022, Hope was appointed as a member of the Order of Canada for her contributions to journalism as a reporter and anchor “and for her tireless involvement as a volunteer.”

Condolences poured in for Hope on social media from former colleagues, who described her as a talented professional and inspiring mentor, as well as people she had interviewed, who remembered her warm personality and genuine interest in their stories.
