BC News anchor Deborra Hope was 67 years old at the time of her death.

Hope passed away on May 15, 2023, at the age of 67.

She had earlier been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2014 shortly after her retirement. She reportedly made mistakes with names and words and showed signs of forgetfulness. Due to her condition, she was put in a long-term care facility in Vancouver until her demise.

Hope is survived by her husband, Roger Hope, who works as a cameraman at Global BC news; and their two daughters.

Deborra Hope was a news anchor, and producer who worked for CHAN-DT, and hosting the Early News and the ‘InSight’ segment of the News Hour.

Born on October 11, 1955 in Trail, British Columbia, Hope attended the University of British Columbia, where she began her journey in journalism by working as a news anchor on the campus radio station, CiTR and as a reporter for the school’s newspaper, The Ubyssey.

She further attended Carleton University in Ottawa and afterwards, she worked for The Canadian Press and BCTV.

For her contributions to the Canadian media, Hope was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada (CM) in 2022.
