Meera Syal Ex-Husband: Meet Shekhar Bhatia

Shekhar Bhatia is a journalist and the ex-husband of Meera Syal a British actress, comedian, writer, and singer.

In 1989, Syal married Shekhar Bhatia; they divorced in 2002. Milli Bhatia, their daughter, works as an associate director at the Royal Court Theatre.

Shekhar Bhatia is a former Sunday Express chief reporter and showbiz editor. He has previously worked for The Observer, The Sunday Mirror, and The Evening Standard.

He has worked on TV documentaries for Panorama, Dispatches, and NBC in the United States. His book on Anni Dewani’s murder was the first to be published by Mirror Books and was serialised in the Daily Mail and Daily Mirror for a week.

Shekhar Bhatia also wrote a play and a series of comedy sketches for Goodness Gracious Me Kulvinder Ghir, which were performed on tour and on BBC Radio Four. He joined the MailOnline global team in September 2017 after working for the US Daily Mail in New York for two and a half years. He currently resides in London.
